You can definitely interpret them the way you like - but my thoughts are below;
Hard mode - Using a technique that is hard to you, iconing a game-based fandom or hard/harsh colouring etc.
TerraCotta - either the colour, or stock icons that feature terracotta, or a terracotta texture
